How Getting Lost at Festivals Led Me to Build FindTribe

Not "missed a turn" lost. I mean "where-the-hell-is-anyone" lost.

Picture this: you're in the perfect spot, front and center, right before your favorite DJ drops the set of a lifetime. But nature calls. Suddenly, you're on a mission to find a restroom. You weave through a sea of bodies, neon outfits, and fog machines only to realize—you've made it to the restroom, but your friends have vanished into the festival ether. RIP perfect spot.

And don't even get me started on trying to find your car after a 10-hour day of dancing, racing, and dehydration.

That frustration—that chaotic dance of bathroom hunts, lost friends, and missed shows—is exactly what led me to build FindTribe.

From "Where Are You?" to "There You Are!"

FindTribe is a location-sharing and interactive map app tailor-made for big, beautiful, chaotic events like Ultra Miami, Formula 1 Miami, and Estéreo Picnic in Colombia (yes, the Estéreo Picnic—Colombia's largest music festival).

I started testing the app quietly with friends and… friends of friends… and even some people I found in Facebook groups. The response? Overwhelming. People used it to:

• Find their friends (no more endless texting and missed sets)
• Find their cars (the post-festival parking lot is a jungle)
• Find the nearest restrooms (no more festival hikes just to pee)
• Stay on top of event schedules
• Get to will call without stress
• And most importantly: never feel lost or disoriented again

The 4AM Hustle

Once I saw the impact it had, I went all in. I started waking up at 4AM every single day—yes, weekends too—to fine-tune the app. I obsessed over every detail:

• Making sure it was production ready
• Ensuring it was lightweight and battery efficient
• Designing a UI that's intuitive, beautiful, and—dare I say—sexy
• Optimizing for performance, because lagging maps and lost data are just as bad as getting lost IRL

It became my obsession. My passion. My Mona Lisa.
